Beginning with a passion for Italian country pieces the design collection at Baltzell has evolved over the years. While the Tuscan furniture still forms the foundation of the collection, an important selection of Turkish kilims, an array of Chinese antiques including chairs, side tables and cabinets along with a smattering of French and Indian pieces have been added.
The collection’s first home was in a small shop in the Old City section of Philadelphia. It was so crammed with beauty that the Philadelphia Inquirer called it a “treasure chest.” With the advent of the Northern Liberties Design Center the collection gained a large space in a former brewery. Along with the expanded space came an expanded selection. The criteria are that everything is handmade creating the “Artistry for Interiors”. We include local fabric designers, artists, Italian, French, Chinese, Indian, Turkish and American antiques, plus. Kevin O’Brien fabrics.
